COURSE OUTLINE

  1. To critically analyze the clinical problems of critically ill patients requiring urgent management.
  2. To compare and contrast the key aspects of Pathophysiology and Clinical Semiology of Shock and Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), and the basic management strategies for Shock and Respiratory Failure in critically ill patients through mechanical ventilation.
  3. To predict and calculate hemodynamic indicators and respiratory function monitoring parameters, and to evaluate laboratory data.
  4. To deconstruct complex clinical problems in critically ill patients into their constituent elements, and to synthesize these elements to interpret the principles of pathophysiology.
  5. To make individualized clinical judgments for complex urgent clinical problems requiring diagnosis and emergency treatment.
  6. To compare and contrast the care needs of a patient in an intensive care unit (ICU) with those of a patient on a general ward.
  7. To compare and contrast the different priorities in intensive care for adults, children, and newborns.
