The academic year begins on September 1st and ends on August 31st of the following calendar year. The educational work of each academic year¹ is chronologically structured into two semesters of study, the winter and the spring semester. Each semester of study includes 13 weeks of teaching. At the end of each semester, there is a three-week examination period.

The academic calendar specifies the start and end dates of:

• the winter and spring semester courses,
• the examination periods for the winter and spring semesters, as well as the September resit examination period,
• the Christmas and Easter holidays.

The academic calendar also outlines the official public holidays for each semester. The academic calendar is announced before the start of each academic year, following a relevant decision by the Senate of the University of West Attica.
